A dark bay, with broad bands across his coat—

فكأَنَّهُso, as though he were مُتَلَفِّعٌwrapped in قُبطِيَّةًa Coptic linen cloth

أَثناؤُهاits folds مشدودةٌbound بِنطاقِهِwith his girdle
أَثناؤُها مشدودةٌ بِنطاقِهِ
He seems wrapped in a robe of Coptic cloth,
So he seems wrapped in a Coptic linen cloth,
its folds drawn tight by his girth.

فَسَوادُهُthus his blackness كاللَيلِlike the night فيin إِظلامِهِits darkness
فَسَوادُهُ كاللَيلِ في إِظلامِهِ
وبَياضُهand his whiteness كالصُبحlike dawn فيin إِشراقِهِits radiance
وبَياضُه كالصُبح في إِشراقِهِ
His black is like night in all its darkness,
Thus his blackness is like night in its darkness,
and his white like dawn in all its radiance.
And his whiteness like dawn in its radiance.
صافيunblemished الأديمthe hide كريمةٌnoble أَنسابهُhis ancestry
صافي الأديم كريمةٌ أَنسابهُ
أخلاقهhis character عَينٌa witness علىto أَعراقِهِhis lineage
أخلاقه عَينٌ على أَعراقِهِ
His hide is flawless, his bloodlines noble;
Unblemished of hide, noble in his ancestry,
