القصدُmoderation شيءٌa thing كلُّall ماthat which دونهbelow it
القصدُ شيءٌ كلُّ ما دونه
نقصٌdeficiency وماand whatever جاوزهexceeds it فَضلُexcess
نقصٌ وما جاوزه فَضلُ
Moderation is a measure: all that falls short of it
The goal is the whole, less is lacking
Is deficiency, and whatever exceeds it is excess.
And more is extravagance
وكلُّand every ضِدّينtwo opposites رأيناهماwe have regarded them both
وكلُّ ضِدّين رأيناهما
جَوراًinjustice وماand what بينهماbetween them both عَدلُjustice
جَوراً وما بينهما عَدلُ
And we have regarded every pair of opposites
And we see any two opposites
As injustice, while what lies between them is justice.
As either injustice or the fair balance between them
