ونحنand we أناسٌa people يعرفُknow الناسُthe people فَضلَناour merit
بالسُنِناwith our tongues زينتwere adorned صدورُthe forefronts المحافلِof assemblies
And we are a people whose merit people know.
We are people whose merit people recognize
With our tongues, the forefronts of assemblies were adorned.
By our years that adorned the breasts of assemblies
تُنيرshine وُجوهthe faces الحقِّof truth عندat جَوابِناour reply
إذاwhen أظلمتgrow dark يوماًone day وُجوهُthe faces المسائلِof questions
The faces of truth shine at our reply,
It illuminates the faces of truth when we answer
When one day the faces of questions grow dark.
If the faces of issues darken one day
صَمتناwe kept silent فلمand did not نَترُكwe leave مقالاًan utterance لصامتٍfor a silent person
وقُلناand we spoke فلمand did not نتركwe leave مَقالاًan utterance لِقائلِfor a speaker
We kept silent, leaving nothing for a silent person to say,
Our silence, we left no saying for a silent one
And we spoke, leaving nothing for a speaker to say.
And we spoke, we left no saying for a speaker
