لو كان للَه شبه من خليقته

لو كان للَه شبه من خليقته

كانت دلائله من خلقه فيه

كانت دلائله من خلقه فيه

If God had a likeness among His creatures,

If God had a likeness among His creation

the signs of Him drawn from His creation would be in Him.

The signs of His making would be manifest in it

قد كان مقتضياً من نشو صانعه

قد كان مقتضياً من نشو صانعه

ما يقتضي النشو من آثار ناشيه

ما يقتضي النشو من آثار ناشيه

He would indeed entail, through His maker's act of origination,

It would require of the rising of its Maker

whatever traces of its originator origination entails.

What the rising requires of the vestiges of one rising

لكنه جل عن أوهام واصفه

لكنه جل عن أوهام واصفه

فالحسن يعدمه والعقل يبديه

فالحسن يعدمه والعقل يبديه

But He is exalted beyond His describer's imaginings;

But He is beyond the fancies of the describer

so beauty negates Him, while reason reveals Him.

So perfection cannot attain Him and reason only points to Him
