وتَذِلُّand are humbled أكنافًthe reaches الدجىdarkness لضيائهاbefore its radiance
And a wine whose radiance makes daylight fade,
With wine whose daylight is eclipsed by its glow,
and before whose glow the reaches of darkness bow.
And whose skirts make the darkness cower before its brilliance,
صُبَّتit was poured فأَحدَقَthen encircled نورُهاits light بزُجاجِهاits glass
فكأَنهاso as though it جُعِلَتhad been made إناءَa vessel إنائهاits vessel
It was poured, and its light encircled its glass,
When poured it focuses its light through its glass,
as though it had been made a vessel for its own vessel.
As if it was made to be contained in its vessel.
وتُرىand it is seen إذاwhen صُبَّتit is poured بَدَتit appears فيin كأسهاits cup
متقاصرَfalling short الأَرجاءِin extent عنcompared with أرجائهاits bounds
And when poured, it is seen appearing within its cup,
When poured it appears in its goblet,
whose bounds fall short of the wine's own bounds.
With its hues receding to its edges.
وتَكادُand it almost إنif مُزِجَتit is blended لرقَّةِbecause of the delicacy of لونهاits color

تَمتازُit stands apart عندupon مِزاجِهاits blending منfrom مائِهاits water
And if blended, such is the delicacy of its color
And if mixed, it nearly separates, so delicate its color,
that it almost stands apart from its water in the mixing.
From its water at the point of mingling.

فيin ضوئهاits light كالليلlike night فيamid أضوائهاits lights
Yellow—the sun, if compared with it, becomes
A golden hue beside which the sun seems dark
in brightness like night amid the wine's radiance.
In its glow, like the night in its lights.

And when you scrutinize the air, you see it
And if you survey the air, you see it
murky on its surface beside the beauty of the wine's clarity.
Turbid next to its excellent clarity.
تَزدادُit increases مِنin كَرمِnobility الطباعِnatural qualities بقَدرِin proportion to ماwhat

Its nobility of nature increases in proportion to what
It increases in generosity the more
the days carry away of its substance.
The days diminish its parts.

Nothing is more wondrous than its recovery springing
Nothing is more wondrous than its generation
from its sickness, and its remedy from its disease.
Of health from its sickness, and its medicine from its disease.
