مَتَىwhenever نَلْقَكُمْwe meet you عَاماًin a year يَكُنْit is عَامَa year of عِلَّةٍexcuses
مَتَى نَلْقَكُمْ عَاماً يَكُنْ عَامَ عِلَّةٍ
وَيُنْظَرْand is deferred بِنَاfor us عَامٌa year مِنَof الدْهرِtime مُقْبِلُyet to come
وَيُنْظَرْ بِنَا عَامٌ مِنَ الدْهرِ مُقْبِلُ
Whenever we meet you in a year, it is a year of excuses,
And we are put off to a year yet to come.
فَواللهِfor, by God مَاnot نَدْرِيwe know أمَاwhether what عِنْدَكُمْin your possession لَنَاfor us
فَواللهِ مَا نَدْرِي أمَا عِنْدَكُمْ لَنَا
يُرِيثُis slow عَلَىbeyond المَوْعُودِthe promised time أمْor نَحْنُwe نُعْجِلُare hasty
يُرِيثُ عَلَى المَوْعُودِ أمْ نَحْنُ نُعْجِلُ
For, by God, we do not know: is what you have for us
Taking longer than promised, or are we too hasty?
