أدعوكI call to you ياO مضنيone who wears away الأجسامthe bodies بالسهدwith sleeplessness
أدعوك يا مضني الأجسام بالسهد
Where is Ali, ailing from sleeplessness and grief?
Where is my reproach for the slender antelope,
I call to you, O you who wear bodies away with sleeplessness.
I call upon you, the one who causes bodies to grow slender,
قطعتyou tore قلبيmy heart الذيwhich أعطاكgave you جوهرa jewel

إني وهبتك محض النفس والكبد
You have torn my heart, which gave you a jewel.
You have broken my heart that gave you its essence,
I have given you the pure essence of my soul and liver.
I gave you the purest of soul and innards,

ألا أهل إليها آخر الأبد
O pearl that never gleamed in its diver’s palm,
O pearl that has not been worn on a diver's palm,
Ah, I call out toward it until eternity’s end [reading uncertain].
Is it not time for me to return to it until the end of time?

My heart is in your palm; I have no hope of its release,
My heart is in your palm, I do not hope for its release,
Like prey that has fallen into a lion’s paws [reading uncertain].
Like prey fallen into the claws of a lion at first strike.
