لئن أصبحتُ أدنى القومِ سنّاً
فعَدُّyet counting فضائِليmy virtues لاnot يُستطاعcan be done
فعَدُّ فضائِلي لا يُستطاع
Though I have become the youngest of the company,
Though I am the youngest of the people in years
yet my virtues cannot be counted.
The count of my virtues cannot be achieved
كشطرَنجٍlike chess ترىyou see الألبابَthe minds فيهin it
كشطرَنجٍ ترى الألبابَ فيه
حيارىbewildered وهوand it رُقعتُهits board ذِراعُa cubit
حيارى وهو رُقعتُه ذِراعُ
Like chess, in which you see minds
Like a chessboard where you see the minds
bewildered, though its board measures a cubit.
Perplexed, though it is just a square forearm
