May the world be no more while you are far away.

O unique one, in whose love I am alone.

O you, for whose desertion I donned the robe of wasting sickness,

And cast off the mantle of merriment while it was still new,

And forsook all the pleasures of existence,

Until the nonexistent and the existent became alike.

I swear by what I suffer on your account from foes—

And the lover of your face is envied among humankind—

    فالصبرُ ينقُصُ والغرامُ يزيدُ

    Indeed, the lover, as you know, is full of longing;

So patience dwindles, and passion grows.

And you have indeed filled my heart with awe of you,

So when I am alone, a witness from you watches over me.

And greed is condemned by the common consent of humankind,

Except when it is for you, for then it is praised.
