ليستْ لِمَحْمِلِها الجبالُ تُطِيقُ
Many a hardship’s weight of woes have I borne,
Though heavy the burden love laid on me be,
whose burden the mountains cannot bear.
Too weak are the mountains, its weight they cannot withstand.

أيَعُدُّdoes he count? أمْواجَthe waves of البحارِthe seas غريقُa drowning man
أيَعُدُّ أمْواجَ البحارِ غريقُ
I did not keep count of time’s calamities—
I could not the blows of fate ever foresee,
Does a drowning man count the waves of the seas?
As little as counting the waves on sea sand.
