قدindeed قلتُI said لِسِحْرِto the magic of طَرْفهِhis gaze إذْwhen نَفَثَاit breathed forth
قد قلتُ لِسِحْرِ طَرْفهِ إذْ نَفَثَا
منfrom شاهدٍa fair beloved إذاwhen فيamong أهلِهhis kin مَاnot لَبِثَاhe lingered
من شاهدٍ إذا في أهلِه مَا لَبِثَا
I said to the magic of his gaze as it breathed forth its spell,
I said to the magic of his glance, when he let loose
From a fair beloved who, when among his kin, did not linger,
From an onlooker, had he tarried among his family,
إذas يكْسِرhe lowers جَفْنَيْهhis two eyelids لكيso that يَعْبَثَhe may toy بيwith me
إذ يكْسِر جَفْنَيْه لكي يَعْبَثَ بي
سُبْحانَكGlory be to You ماnot خلقْتَYou created هذاthis عَبَثَاin vain
سُبْحانَك ما خلقْتَ هذا عَبَثَا
As he lowered his eyelids to toy with me:
When he flutters his eyelids to toy with me,
“Glory be to You! You did not create this in vain.”
Glory to You! You did not create this in vain.
