للهِto God (expressing admiration) صَبٌّa lovesick lover مدْحُpraising مَعْشوقِهِhis beloved
للهِ صَبٌّ مدْحُ مَعْشوقِهِ
دَِيْدنُهhis constant habit مُتَّبِعٌfollowing نَهْجَهْhis path
دَِيْدنُه مُتَّبِعٌ نَهْجَهْ
How wondrous a lovesick lover! Praising his beloved
Is his constant habit; he follows his path.
يفْرحhe rejoices إنif وَافاهُhe meets him فيin مَحْفَلٍa gathering
يفْرح إن وَافاهُ في مَحْفَلٍ
كَمُذْنِبٍlike a sinner قامتْbecame established لهfor him حُجَّهْa defense
كَمُذْنِبٍ قامتْ له حُجَّهْ
He rejoices if he meets him at a gathering,
Like a sinner whose defense has been established.
