كانتthere was بِقَلْبِيin my heart غُلَّةٌa thirst
كانت بِقَلْبِي غُلَّةٌ
حَرَّاءُburning للرَّشأالمُمَنَّعْfor the unapproachable young gazelle
حَرَّاءُ للرَّشأالمُمَنَّعْ
There was a thirst within my heart,
There was a burning knot
burning for the unapproachable young gazelle,
In my heart, impenetrable
حتىuntil دَنَوتُI drew near لثَغْرِهto his lips
حتى دَنَوتُ لثَغْرِه
فرَشفْتُهso I sipped it والرَّشْفُand sipping أنْقَعْmost thirst-quenching
فرَشفْتُه والرَّشْفُ أنْقَعْ
until I drew near his lips;
Until I came close to his lips
so I sipped them—and sipping quenched it best.
And I quenched it, and quenching is soothing
