كُفّيcease ملامَكِyour reproach لاتَnot حينَa time for تَصَبُّريmy effort to be patient
كُفّي ملامَكِ لاتَ حينَ تَصَبُّري
بادٍplain هُياميmy love-madness فَاِعذِليthen reproach me أَوor فَاِعذُريthen excuse me
بادٍ هُيامي فَاِعذِلي أَو فَاِعذُري
Cease your reproach; this is no time for me to be patient.
Enough of your blaming when you turn cold,
My love-madness is plain; then reproach me or else excuse me.
My passion is ruined, so excuse me or justify.
جَلَبَbrought الغرامُpassionate love عَلىupon الحشاthe heart فرطَan excess of الأسىsorrow
جَلَبَ الغرامُ عَلى الحشا فرطَ الأسى
فأناso I الشَجيُّthe grief-stricken one وعاذِليand my reproacher لمdid not يَشعُرِperceive
فأنا الشَجيُّ وعاذِلي لم يَشعُرِ
Love has brought an excess of sorrow upon my heart.
Love has brought anguish to the lovesick, exceeding sorrow,
So I am grief-stricken, while my reproacher is unaware.
And I'm the one in agony while my blamer was unaware.
ياO شادناًa young gazelle خَلَعَbestowed السَقامَsickness عليَّupon me منfrom
يا شادناً خَلَعَ السَقامَ عليَّ من
طرفٍa glance وشبَّand kindled بيَwithin me الشُجونَsorrows بِمحجَرِwith an eye socket
طرفٍ وشبَّ بيَ الشُجونَ بِمحجَرِ
O young gazelle, who clothed me in sickness through
O you who removed the sickness and clad me in sorrows
a glance, and kindled sorrows within me with an eye.
With a glance, and lit my yearnings with a wink.
إنif تحمِكَguard you السُمرُthe brown spears الظَماءُthe thirsty ones فإنَّنيthen indeed I
إن تحمِكَ السُمرُ الظَماءُ فإنَّني
مِنout of لَوعَتيmy burning anguish أَهوىI long for عِناقَan embrace of الأَسمُرِthe brown spear
مِن لَوعَتي أَهوى عِناقَ الأَسمُرِ
If the thirsty brown spears guard you, then I
If the wakeful dark night brings you sleepiness,
in my burning anguish long to embrace the brown spear.
Then from my agony, I desire embracing the dark one.
