بلسان ناطق وفمِ

It has aged so long that, were it joined

Even if I were eloquent of tongue,

to a speaking tongue and a mouth,

And my mouth fluent and free,

لاحتبت في القوم ماثلةً

لاحتبت في القوم ماثلةً

ثم قُصّت قصّة الأممِ

ثم قُصّت قصّة الأممِ

it would sit among the people, visibly present, with knees drawn up;

I would not love to dwell among the folk,

then the tale of nations would be recounted.

Then hear the tales of nations and their grief.
