جعلتُ كتابي عبرةً مُستهِلةً

جعلتُ كتابي عبرةً مُستهِلةً

ففي الخدِّ من ماءِ الجفونِ وسطورُ

ففي الخدِّ من ماءِ الجفونِ وسطورُ

I made my letter a streaming tear;

I have made my book an instructive preface

and so on the cheek are lines of water from the eyelids.

So in the cheek from the water of the eyelids and lines

ورسلي لحاجاتي وهُنَّ كثيرةٌ

ورسلي لحاجاتي وهُنَّ كثيرةٌ

إليكَ إشاراتٌ بها وزفيرُ

إليكَ إشاراتٌ بها وزفيرُ

And my messengers for my needs—and they are many—

And my messengers for my many needs

to you are gestures concerning them, and sighs.

To you are hints with sighs and groans
