إنّي وأنتَ رضيعا قهوَةٍ لَطُفَت

إنّي وأنتَ رضيعا قهوَةٍ لَطُفَت

عن العِيانِ ودقَّت عن مَدَى الفَهِمِ

عن العِيانِ ودقَّت عن مَدَى الفَهِمِ

Indeed, you and I are two nurslings of wine too subtle

For sight, and too fine for the discerning mind's reach.

لم نرتَضِع غيرَ كأسٍ دَرُّها ذَهبٌ

لم نرتَضِع غيرَ كأسٍ دَرُّها ذَهبٌ

والكأسُ حُرمتها أولى من الرَّحمِ

والكأسُ حُرمتها أولى من الرَّحمِ

We have suckled only from a cup whose milk is gold;

And the cup's sacred claim takes precedence over kinship.
