وجه الذي يعشقُ معروفُ

وجه الذي يعشقُ معروفُ

لأنَّهُ أصفرُ منحوفُ

The face of one in love is recognizable,

The face of one who is in love is known

For it is sallow and gaunt.

For it is sallow and thin

ليسَ كمن أمسى له جُنَّةٌ

ليسَ كمن أمسى له جُنَّةٌ

كأنه لِلذبح معلوف

كأنه لِلذبح معلوف

He is unlike one who has come to have a shield,

Not like one who is possessed by jinn

As though he were fattened for slaughter.

As if readied for slaughter, prepared
