هَلّاWhy did you not صَبَرتُمyou held firm بَنيO sons of السوداءthe black woman أَنفُسَكُمyourselves
هَلّا صَبَرتُم بَني السوداء أَنفُسَكُم
حَتّىuntil تَموتواyou die كَماjust as ماتَتdied بَنوthe sons of أَسَدِAsad
حَتّى تَموتوا كَما ماتَت بَنو أَسَدِ
Why did you not hold yourselves firm, sons of the black woman,
O sons of blackness, would that you had patience
until you died, as the sons of Asad died?
Until you die as died the sons of Asad
حامَتstood guard بَنوthe sons of أَسَدٍAsad عَنin defense of مَجدِthe glory of أَوَّلِهاtheir forebears
حامَت بَنو أَسَدٍ عَن مَجدِ أَوَّلِها
وَأَنتُمُand you كَنَعامِlike the ostriches of القَاعَةِthe plain الشُّرُدِthe fleeing ones
وَأَنتُمُ كَنَعامِ القَاعَةِ الشُّرُدِ
The sons of Asad defended the glory of their forebears,
The sons of Asad defended the glory of their first ones
while you are like the fleeing ostriches of the plain.
While you are like ostriches scattered in the desert
