Jesting has ended, and a merry man has come to his senses.

And gray hair followed upon gray hair.

Behold, there is no physician for the ailment of gray hair.

Nor does youth, once departed from you, return.

By my life, youth has indeed departed, and I

am truly saddened at heart over it, despondent.

And I said to the guest—gray hair—when it came to me:

Your share from me is coldness and scowling.

It is forbidden to us that, in our midst, you receive

the honor of kindness, or that perfume touch you.
