رَأَيتك يا زَيدُ زَيدَ النَدى

رَأَيتك يا زَيدُ زَيدَ النَدى

وَزَيدَ الفُخار وَزَيدَ الكَرَمِ

وَزَيدَ الفُخار وَزَيدَ الكَرَمِ

I have seen you, O Zayd, Zayd of bounty,

I saw you, O Zayd, Zayd of the dew,

I saw you, O Zayd, as the Zayd of generosity,

And Zayd of glory, and Zayd of generosity,

And Zayd of generosity and Zayd of nobility.

The Zayd of glory, and the Zayd of nobility.

تَزيد عَلى نائِباتِ الخطو

تَزيد عَلى نائِباتِ الخطو

ب بَذلاً وَفي سابِغاتِ النِعَمِ

ب بَذلاً وَفي سابِغاتِ النِعَمِ

Growing, in the face of misfortune’s blows,

You surpass rivals in your steps

You increase, against the vicissitudes of misfortune,

In generosity, and amid abundant blessings.

With generosity, and in your perfect bounty.

In giving, and in blessings ample and full.

كَذا الخَمرُ وَالذَهَبُ المَعدَنيّ

كَذا الخَمرُ وَالذَهَبُ المَعدَنيّ

يَجوّد هَذا وَذاكَ القدم

يَجوّد هَذا وَذاكَ القدم

Likewise, wine and mined gold:

Just as wine and mined gold

Just so are wine and the mined gold;

Age improves both this and that.

Improve with age.

The passage of time refines them both.
