He sold himself, his family, and his country
He sold his soul, his family and homeland
He sold his very self, his kin, and his homeland,
for praise, neither stinting nor regretting it.
With praise, neither cheating nor regretting,
In exchange for praise—neither underselling nor regretting the cost,

He forsook the world, though it had been spread out for him,
And left this world though spread out before him,
And he abandoned the world, though it was laid out before him,
its teats brimming with milk, not run dry.
Adorned, with all its transient treasures.
Its udders brimming with bounty, their flow unsevered.
