لَعَمرُكَ ما أَخلَقتُ وَجهاً بذلتُه

لَعَمرُكَ ما أَخلَقتُ وَجهاً بذلتُه

إِليك وَلا عرّضتُه لِلمَعايرِ

إِليك وَلا عرّضتُه لِلمَعايرِ

By your life, I have not worn out the face I offered

I swear by your life I did not create a face I offered to you

By your life, I have not worn out the face I offered

to you, nor exposed it to reproach.

Nor did I expose it to reproach

To you, nor did I expose it to disgrace.

فَتىً وَفَرت أَيدي المَحامِد عِرضَه

فَتىً وَفَرت أَيدي المَحامِد عِرضَه

عَلَيهِ وَخَلَّت ماله غَيرَ وافِر

عَلَيهِ وَخَلَّت ماله غَيرَ وافِر

A youth whose honor the hands of praiseworthy deeds preserved

A young man whose praiseworthy sides have evaded praise

A youth whose honor the hands of praise have made abundant,

for him, while leaving his wealth less than abundant.

With scarce wealth upon him and none to console

Even as they left his wealth in short supply.
