وَحَراراتِ أَنيني
Allay for me my dark suspicions
My suspicions have done you wrong,
Satisfy for me my dark suspicions,
And the burning pangs of my groaning.
And my groans - their heat.
And the burning heat of my moans.

ر كَفى سوءَ ظُنوني
You—what need have you of forsak-
What can raving do but add, my friend,
What do you intend by this abandonment?
ing? My dark suspicions suffice.
To all my false suspicions?
My dark suspicions are suffering enough.
أَوor ماnot يَكفيكَit suffices you أَنّيthat I
أَو ما يَكفيكَ أَنّي

بك مَقطوعُ القرينِ
Or is it not enough for you that I
Or does it not suffice that I
Does it not suffice you that I am,
Am, through you, without a peer?
Am cut off from all society?
Because of you, severed from all companions?
فَإِلىso to طَرفكyour gaze أَشكوI complain

كُلَّ ذي طرف فَتون
So to your gaze I complain
So to you I complain of all those
So to your gaze I complain,
Of everyone with a bewitching gaze,
With roving eyes and outward charms,
Of every eye that captivates.

And to the cheek that is wound-
And those cheeks that are scratched
And to the cheek that is,
ed by the eyes’ glances.
By the glances of all who look.
Wounded by the mere glances of eyes.
وَتقرّبتand I drew near إِلَيكمto you all
وَتقرّبت إِلَيكم
بِخُضوعwith the submission of المُستَكينone brought low
بِخُضوع المُستَكين
And I drew near to you
I've approached you humbly,
I have drawn near to you,
With the submission of one brought low.
Like the meek and needy;
With the submission of the wretched.
فارحَمواso have mercy (you all) ضُرّيmy suffering وَإِلّاand otherwise
فارحَموا ضُرّي وَإِلّا
فَأَريحواthen give relief (you all) واقتُلونيand kill me (you all)
فَأَريحوا واقتُلوني
So have mercy on my suffering; otherwise,
So take pity on my pain, or else
So have mercy on my affliction, or else,
Then give me relief and kill me.
Grant me rest - kill me!
Grant me relief and slay me.
