أَلاAh! قاتَلَmay He curse اللَهُGod الأولىthose who كفَرواdisbelieved بِهِin Him
أَلا قاتَلَ اللَهُ الأولى كفَروا بِهِ
وَفازواand they won بِرأسwith the head of الهرثميِّal-Harthami حُسَينِHusayn
وَفازوا بِرأس الهرثميِّ حُسَينِ
Ah, may God curse those who disbelieved in Him,
and won the head of Husayn al-Harthami.
لَقَدindeed أَورَدواthey brought to ruin منهof him قناةa spear-shaft صَليبةًsturdy
لَقَد أَورَدوا منه قناة صَليبةً
بِشَطبٍwith a grooved sword يَمانيّYemeni وَرمحand a spear رَدَينيّRudayni
بِشَطبٍ يَمانيّ وَرمح رَدَينيّ
They surely brought his sturdy spear-shaft to ruin
with a grooved Yemeni sword and a Rudayni spear.
رَجاhe hoped فيin خلافopposition to الحَقّthe truth عَزاًglory وإِمرَةًand command
رَجا في خلاف الحَقّ عَزاً وإِمرَةً
فألبسهso it shod him التأميلhope خُفَّa boot حُنَينHunayn
فألبسه التأميل خُفَّ حُنَين
He hoped for glory and command in opposing the truth;
so hope shod him in Hunayn’s boot.
