وفيتَ وما لك إلا الوفا

وفيتَ وما لك إلا الوفا

وأنصفتَ والعدلُ أن تُنصِفا

وأنصفتَ والعدلُ أن تُنصِفا

You have kept faith, and fidelity alone is yours.

You were true to your word, as loyalty was your way,

And you have dealt fairly; justice is to act fairly.

You were just, as justice was to reciprocate in kind,

ضمنتَ ضماناً وأتممتَه

ضمنتَ ضماناً وأتممتَه

وأوليتَ ما جلَّ أن يُوصَفا

وأوليتَ ما جلَّ أن يُوصَفا

You gave a pledge and fulfilled it.

You made your promise and saw it through,

And you bestowed what is too great to be described.

You gave your all, more than words can define,

فما كنتَ في العهد لي خائناً

فما كنتَ في العهد لي خائناً

ولا كنتَ في الوعد لي مخلفا

ولا كنتَ في الوعد لي مخلفا

So you never betrayed your pledge to me,

Never deceitful nor ever one to betray,

Nor did you break your promise to me.

Never failing nor faltering from your promise to uphold,

لقد عاد وصلُك مستطرَفاً

لقد عاد وصلُك مستطرَفاً

لأني توقَّعتُ منك الجَفا

لأني توقَّعتُ منك الجَفا

Your closeness has indeed become a fresh delight,

Your affection returned full of delight,

For I had expected estrangement from you.

As I had expected from you nothing but cold,

ولو نال غيرُك ما نلتَهُ

ولو نال غيرُك ما نلتَهُ

لفارَقَ أحبابَه وانتفى

لفارَقَ أحبابَه وانتفى

And had another attained what you attained,

Had another been granted what you have attained,

He would have left his loved ones and withdrawn.

He would have deserted his loved ones absent and aloof,

لأن المَلُولَ إذا ما استقا

لأن المَلُولَ إذا ما استقا

مَ بالوَصل شَتَّتَ ما ألَّفا

مَ بالوَصل شَتَّتَ ما ألَّفا

For one who tires easily, once settled

For the wavering soul if affection it regains,

In closeness, scatters what he once joined.

With reunion scatters what affection wove,

فلِم لا أُواصِل مَن لو جفا

فلِم لا أُواصِل مَن لو جفا

لكدَّر من عيشتي ما صفا

لكدَّر من عيشتي ما صفا

So why should I not stay close to one who, if he turned away,

Why cease to cherish one who if spurned,

Would cloud what is clear in my life?

Would taint the clear joy my life preserved,

تُراني أُضيع حقوق الهوى

تُراني أُضيع حقوق الهوى

وأنت حفيظ لعهد الصفا

وأنت حفيظ لعهد الصفا

Do you think I would neglect the rights of love,

Do you see me forsake what love has earned,

While you guard the covenant of sincere affection?

While you keep faith with the covenant observed?

ولكنني لك طوع اليدي

ولكنني لك طوع اليدي

نِ على رغم من لام أو عنَّفا

نِ على رغم من لام أو عنَّفا

But I am yours, pliant in your hands,

But to you I yield with willing hand,

Despite whoever reproaches or rebukes me.

Despite any blame or those who reprehend,

فلستُ أُبالي بمن لامني

فلستُ أُبالي بمن لامني

إذا ما وفيت لمن قد وفى

إذا ما وفيت لمن قد وفى

For I care nothing for whoever blames me,

I care not for those who reprimand,

So long as I keep faith with one who has kept faith.

If to the loyal one loyalty I extend.
