With his glances he inflicted wounds on the heart—
The glance has wounded my heart with scars,
a moon that shone in black gauzy robes.
A moon appeared amidst the black tresses.

If you saw him as he appeared, you would say: “A full moon,
If you saw it when it appeared, you would say, “A full moon,”
and a slender branch playing with the winds.”
And a wand, playing with the breeze.

صاحت الملقلتانِ منه السلاحا
And at a scorpion-curled sidelock above a cheek,
Above a cheek, adorned with a beauty mark,
the two eyes cried out because of it: “To arms!”
Two eyelashes have taken up arms against it.
