فلقد أطلتَ تحيُّلي وتلدُّدي
What am I to do about your rejection, O gazelle of al-Mirbad?
Why do you turn away, O gazelle of the valley?
For you have prolonged my search for a way and my bewilderment.
You have prolonged my struggles and troubles.
مَنwho منقذيmy rescuer منfrom جورinjustice حكمكyour judgment فيin الهوىlove
مَن منقذي من جور حكمك في الهوى
منwho راحميone who pities me منwho شافعيmy intercessor منwho مُسعديmy helper
من راحمي من شافعي من مُسعدي
Who will rescue me from the injustice of your judgment in love?
Who will save me from the injustice of your love?
Who will pity me, who will intercede for me, who will help me?
Who will have mercy on me? Who will help me?
يبلىwears away شبابيmy youth فيin الهوىlove وعذابُهand its torment
يبلى شبابي في الهوى وعذابُه
متجدِّدٌrenewed منfrom هجركyour estrangement المتجدِّدِever-renewed
متجدِّدٌ من هجرك المتجدِّدِ
My youth wears away in love, and its torment
My youth is wasted in love and its torment
is renewed by your ever-renewed estrangement.
Is renewed by your recurring abandonment.
ياO أهلfamily منthe one whom أهوىI love رضيتمyou have consented لابنكمfor your son
يا أهل من أهوى رضيتم لابنكم
أنthat تبصروهyou see him قاتلاًa slayer لمُوَحِّدِof a monotheist
أن تبصروه قاتلاً لمُوَحِّدِ
O family of the one I love, are you content for your son
O people of my beloved! Are you content
to be seen by you as the slayer of a believer in the One God?
To see me a killer of the one God?
أناI بالرجاthrough hope واليأسand despair حيٌّalive ميتdead
أنا بالرجا واليأس حيٌّ ميت
حتىuntil أرىI see إنجازfulfillment ذاكthat الموعِدthe promise
حتى أرى إنجاز ذاك الموعِد
Through hope and despair, I am alive and dead,
I live dead with hope and despair
until I see that promise fulfilled.
Until I see the fulfillment of that promise.
