أمِنّا أناساً كنتِ قد تأمنينهم

but they embellished our words and sowed false impressions.

But they added to our words and gave false impressions.

وقالوا لنا ما لم نقل ثم كثَّروا

علينا وباحوا بالذي كنتُ أكتمُ

They attributed to us what we had never said, then multiplied it

And attributed to us what we had not said, then heaped more words

against us—and divulged what I had kept concealed.
