Say to the gazelle who is in al-Āsī Lane:
Tell the gazelle in the path of affliction,
You have tormented my heart and cut off my breath.
You have tormented my heart and torn my breath,

By the beauty of your face, O you who have no equal,
With the beauty of your face, O matchless one,
Do not make people gloat over me, O loveliest of people.
Do not gloat over people about me, O finest of people,

This is my letter, now that my patience has dwindled:
This is my book for when my patience diminished,
I lament to you my ardent longings and obsessive thoughts.
I complain to you my youth and my anxieties,
ماnot زالَceased يُمليdictates فؤاديmy heart ماwhat تخطُّwrites يديmy hand
حتىuntil بكتwept ليَfor me أقلاميmy pens وقرطاسيand my paper
My heart kept dictating what my hand wrote,
My heart continues to dictate what my hand sketches
Until my pens and paper wept for me.
Until my pens and paper wept for me.
