مالي قليل وكسبي ليس ينفعني

مالي قليل وكسبي ليس ينفعني

وقد بُليتُ بأقوام مفاليسِ

My wealth is scant, and my earnings do me no good.

I have little wealth and my earnings do not benefit me

And I have indeed been afflicted with penniless people.

I have been afflicted by bankrupt people

ما منهمُ أحدٌ يُرجى لنائله

ما منهمُ أحدٌ يُرجى لنائله

وكيف ترجى عظامٌ في النَّواويسِ

وكيف ترجى عظامٌ في النَّواويسِ

Not one of them can be counted on for his bounty.

None of them can be hoped for by their seeker

And how can one hope for anything from bones in tombs?

And how can one hope for bones in the graves

رد بدر تميم في عطيتِهم

رد بدر تميم في عطيتِهم

وفي السفاهة هم اخوان ابليسِ

وفي السفاهة هم اخوان ابليسِ

Badr of Tamim was rebuffed in their giving [reading uncertain].

May Badr Tamim return in his generosity

And in foolishness they are brothers of Iblis.

And in folly they are the brothers of Iblis

الخبز عندهُمُ في وقت بيدرهم

الخبز عندهُمُ في وقت بيدرهم

أعزُّ من نَورَةٍ في عهد بلقيسِ

أعزُّ من نَورَةٍ في عهد بلقيسِ

Bread, among them at their threshing time,

Bread with them at the time of their pride

Is rarer than depilatory lime in the days of Bilqis.

Is dearer than An-Nawarah during the era of Bilqis
