مولاي تمطلني غداً فغدا
وأرىand I see غداًtomorrow لاdoes not ينقضيend أبداever
وأرى غداً لا ينقضي أبدا
My lord, you put me off till tomorrow, then tomorrow again.
My Master, you delay tomorrow and tomorrow
And I see that tomorrow never ends.
And I see tomorrow never ending
أحييتَنيyou revived me بالوعدwith the promise ياO أمليmy hope
أحييتَني بالوعد يا أملي
ومطلتَنيand you put me off فأمَتَّنيthen you killed me كمداwith grief
ومطلتَني فأمَتَّني كمدا
You brought me to life with your promise, O my hope,
You revived me with promise, O my hope
And you put me off, then killed me with grief.
And you delayed me until like death you made me
لاdo not تنسَforget عهدكyour pledge ليto me فأوفِso fulfill بهit
لا تنسَ عهدك لي فأوفِ به
إنindeed الكريمthe noble man يفيkeeps his word إذاwhen وعداhe promises
إن الكريم يفي إذا وعدا
Do not forget your pledge to me; fulfill it.
Do not forget your promise to me, so fulfill it
For a noble man keeps his word when he promises.
For the generous one fulfills when he promises
ماwhat ليwith me أرىI see كلَّall العيونthe eyes إذاwhen
ما لي أرى كلَّ العيون إذا
نظرتthey look إليكat you تغايرتbecome jealous of one another حسداout of envy
نظرت إليك تغايرت حسدا
Why do I see all eyes, whenever
What is with me, I see every eye
They look at you, vying with one another in envy?
When it looks upon you, envious it becomes
لاdo not تظهرنshow yourself والشمسwhile the sun طالعةis up
لا تظهرن والشمس طالعة
لاlest تدَّعيكshe claim you لنفسهاfor herself ولداa son
لا تدَّعيك لنفسها ولدا
Do not appear while the sun is up,
Do not appear while the sun is rising
Lest she claim you as a son of her own.
Do not claim it for yourself as a son
خطراتُstirrings قلبيof my heart فيin طرائقهاtheir paths
خطراتُ قلبي في طرائقها
تذرleave القلوبَhearts طرائقاًstrips قِدداtorn pieces
تذر القلوبَ طرائقاً قِددا
The stirrings of my heart, along their paths,
My heart's whims in its ways
Leave hearts in strips, torn to pieces.
Make hearts ways rugged
لمdid not تُبقِleave ليfor me جَلَداًendurance ولاnor تركتleft
لم تُبقِ لي جَلَداً ولا تركت
عيناكyour two eyes قطُّever لعاشِقfor a lover جَلَداendurance
عيناك قطُّ لعاشِق جَلَدا
They have left me no endurance, nor have
You left me no patience, and your eyes left
Your eyes ever left a lover any endurance.
For no lover, ever, patience
مولايmy lord ياO هارونHarun زُرvisit دَنِفاًa lovesick man
مولاي يا هارون زُر دَنِفاً
إنif لمnot تزرهyou visit him اليومtoday ماتhe will die غداtomorrow
إن لم تزره اليوم مات غدا
My lord, O Harun, visit a lovesick man;
My Master, O Harun visit Daneef
If you do not visit him today, he will die tomorrow.
For if you do not visit him today, tomorrow he dies
