وهاك فابرِ عظامي موضعَ القَلَمِ
Make my heart an inkwell and my blood the ink.
Make my heart an inkwell and my blood the ink,
And take these: sharpen my bones in place of the pen.
Stretch my eyelids as parchment, though they ache
وامددand spread out جفونيَmy eyelids قرطاساًpaper فإنand if ألِمَتthey ache

And spread my eyelids out as paper; if they ache
From what you write, let the ache intensify.
From what you inscribe, then add to that pain.
O You who made judges laugh at me and weep

ممّا بقلبي وعينيه من السَّقِمِ
O you who made the censurers laugh at me—and they wept
At the sickness in my heart and in their eyes.
At the sickness in my heart and in his eyes.
The beautiful ones don't know who pines for them,

وأنت أشهرُ في الديوان من عَلَمِ
Do you think the censurers did not know for whom I am lovesick,
Yet You're more famous in the scrolls than any name.
When you are more renowned in the divan than a banner?
