إذا لم نطب في ذا الزمان وطيبه

فليس لنا في الطيِّبات نصيبُ

فليس لنا في الطيِّبات نصيبُ

If we take no delight in this age and its sweetness,

If we are not merry in this season and its sweetness,

then we have no share in the good things—

Then we have no share in good things,

على حُسن أيام الربيع وطيبها

على حُسن أيام الربيع وطيبها

وقد تحسن الدنيا به وتطيبُ

وقد تحسن الدنيا به وتطيبُ

despite the beauty and sweetness of springtime days,

For all the beauty of spring's days and their sweetness,

though through spring the world grows lovely and sweet.

And through it the world indeed grows fair and sweet.

أجب داعيَ اللذات والورد قائم

أجب داعيَ اللذات والورد قائم

على منبر اللذات وهو خطيبُ

على منبر اللذات وهو خطيبُ

Answer the caller to delights; the rose stands

Answer pleasure's herald, while the rose stands

upon the pulpit of delights, a preacher.

Upon pleasure's pulpit, an orator.

فيا ورد أمتعنا بطيبٍ وبهجةٍ

فيا ورد أمتعنا بطيبٍ وبهجةٍ

فأنت لتشبيه الحبيب حبيبُ

فأنت لتشبيه الحبيب حبيبُ

O rose, delight us with your fragrance and radiance;

So, O rose, delight us with fragrance and splendor,

for you resemble the beloved and are yourself beloved.

For you are beloved for your likeness to the beloved.

وروِّح قلوبَ العاشقين وحبها

وروِّح قلوبَ العاشقين وحبها

وهل لُقيت للعاشقين قلوبُ

وهل لُقيت للعاشقين قلوبُ

Refresh lovers’ hearts and the love within them—

And refresh lovers' hearts and their love—

but have hearts ever been found among lovers?
