قد قلتُ إذ خان حبّي مَن كلفتُ به

قد قلتُ إذ خان حبّي مَن كلفتُ به

ولم يكن عنه لي صبرٌ ولا جَلَدُ

ولم يكن عنه لي صبرٌ ولا جَلَدُ

I said, when the one I adored betrayed my love,

When my love betrayed me, whom I had entrusted

And I had neither patience nor fortitude to be without him:

And I had no patience or composure about it

إن كان شاركني في حبِّه وقحٌ

إن كان شاركني في حبِّه وقحٌ

فالنهر يشرب منه الكلب والأسَدُ

فالنهر يشرب منه الكلب والأسَدُ

If a shameless man has joined me in loving him,

If he who shared my love was so shameless

Then both the dog and the lion drink from the river.

Then the river is drunk by both dog and lion
