How often have I enjoyed bliss in love and suffered!

How often, and how often, have I died in it, then lived again!

If I have sometimes been angry with Time

for a fault, long indeed have I been content.

May God vex an envier who embittered life,

though the beloved's overnight stay has been long.

What does the envious one want from us? Yet

everything from the loathsome one is loathsome.
