انظرlook إليَّupon me بصفحٍwith forgiveness منكfrom you عنfor زَلَليmy lapses
انظر إليَّ بصفحٍ منك عن زَلَلي
لاdo not تتركَنِّيَever leave me منbecause of ذنبيmy sin علىin وَجَلِfear
لا تتركَنِّيَ من ذنبي على وَجَلِ
Look upon me with your pardon for my lapses.
Do not leave me in fear because of my sin.
روحيmy soul وروحُكand your soul مقرونانbound together فيin قَرَنٍa binding cord
روحي وروحُك مقرونان في قَرَنٍ
فكيفhow, then أهجرcan I forsake مَنone whom فيin هجرِهparting from him أجَليmy death
فكيف أهجر مَن في هجرِه أجَلي
My soul and yours are bound together by one cord.
How, then, can I forsake one when parting from him is my death?
وليسand there is no ليfor me أمَلٌhope إلاexcept وصالكمُunion with you
وليس لي أمَلٌ إلا وصالكمُ
فكيفhow, then أقطعcan I sever ties with مَنone whom فيin وصلهunion with him أمَليmy hope
فكيف أقطع مَن في وصله أمَلي
And I have no hope but union with you.
How, then, can I sever ties with one when my hope lies in union with him?
هذاthis فؤاديَmy heart لمdid not يملِكهpossess it قبلكمُbefore you
هذا فؤاديَ لم يملِكه قبلكمُ
خلقٌany creature وحقِّand by the sanctity of أميرthe Commander of المؤمنينthe Faithful عليAli
خلقٌ وحقِّ أمير المؤمنين علي
This heart of mine was never owned before you
By any creature—I swear by the sanctity of Ali, Commander of the Faithful.
