لا قَضى اللَه بيننا بالفراقِ
إنَّindeed طعمَtaste الفراقseparation مُرُّbitter المذاقِto the palate
إنَّ طعمَ الفراق مُرُّ المذاقِ
May God never decree separation between us.
Indeed, the taste of separation is bitter to the palate.
غُصَصٌchoking pangs الموتِof death ساعةan hour ثمthen تفنىfade away
غُصَصٌ الموتِ ساعة ثم تفنى
وفراقand separation الحبيبthe beloved فيin الصدرthe breast باقِremaining
وفراق الحبيب في الصدر باقِ
Death's choking pangs last an hour, then fade,
While separation from the beloved remains in the breast.
ياO فراقَseparation الحبيبthe beloved أنتyou عذابٌa torment
يا فراقَ الحبيب أنت عذابٌ
قاتلٌdeadly للمحبِّto the lover حتّىuntil التلاقيreunion
قاتلٌ للمحبِّ حتّى التلاقي
O separation from the beloved, you are a torment,
Deadly to the lover until reunion.
كلّevery يومٍday أموتُI die منfrom ألفِa thousand لونٍkinds
كلّ يومٍ أموتُ من ألفِ لونٍ
وأرىand I find الموتَdeath لذةًa delight للفراقِbecause of separation
وأرى الموتَ لذةً للفراقِ
Each day I die in a thousand ways,
And I find death a delight because of separation.
