Nothing is more pleasing

Nothing is better placed

than a beloved’s nearness after his distance.

Than the nearness of intimacy after distance

فاشرب كُفِيتَ صدودَه

فاشرب كُفِيتَ صدودَه

ورُزِقتَ منه وفاء عهده

ورُزِقتَ منه وفاء عهده

So drink—may you be spared his rejection,

So drink your fill of his rebuffs

and granted his faithfulness to his pledge.

And be granted his fidelity to his vow
