يا جامعاً من جميع الخلق مختصَرا

O you whose form enslaves all forms,

O you who gather in yourself the essence of all creation,

إن كنتَ جئتَ لذاك الذنب معتذراً

إن كنتَ جئتَ لذاك الذنب معتذراً

فأذنِبِ الآن وارجع بَعدُ معتذِرا

فأذنِبِ الآن وارجع بَعدُ معتذِرا

If you have come apologizing for that sin,

Then sin now, and return afterward apologizing.

سقياً لذلك ذنباً كان لي سبباً

سقياً لذلك ذنباً كان لي سبباً

إلى وصال غزالٍ طال ما هَجرا

إلى وصال غزالٍ طال ما هَجرا

May rain bless that sin, which was my means

To union with a gazelle who had long shunned me.

ذا الوجه ليس بمغضوبٍ عليه ومَن

ذا الوجه ليس بمغضوبٍ عليه ومَن

يغضب على مثل هذا الوجه قد خسرا

يغضب على مثل هذا الوجه قد خسرا

This face is not an object of anger; and whoever

Is angry at a face like this has surely lost.

دع وصفَ حُسنِ حسينٍ حين تذكره

دع وصفَ حُسنِ حسينٍ حين تذكره

فان حُسنَ حسينٍ جاوز القَدَرا

فان حُسنَ حسينٍ جاوز القَدَرا

Leave off describing Husayn's beauty when you mention him,

For Husayn's beauty has surpassed all measure.

أتى وفتيان صدقٍ حوله فحكَوا

أتى وفتيان صدقٍ حوله فحكَوا

كواكباً وحكى من بينهم قَمَرا

كواكباً وحكى من بينهم قَمَرا

He came with true-hearted youths around him, and they resembled

Stars, while he resembled a moon among them.

فلو ترى حُسنه من بين حُسنهمُ

فلو ترى حُسنه من بين حُسنهمُ

لقلت ذا مَلِكٌ حَفَّت به الوُزَرا

لقلت ذا مَلِكٌ حَفَّت به الوُزَرا

And if you could see his beauty amid their beauty,

You would say, 'This is a king surrounded by ministers.'
