A marvel of beauty—in his eye lies my death.

He was formed from light too sublime for description.

    He has a gazelle’s eyes and a doe’s neck,

And roses on two cheeks, plucked by a glance.

And lovely cheek-down, whose line has traced in musk

Arrows of doom that summon to death.

And he smiles, revealing a mouth whose saliva is like

The bees’ harvest when mingled with pure wine.

As though a dawn rising from his brow

Had night encamped upon it in thick, jet-black hair.
