If in the full moons there is one kind of beauty,

then in the one I love there is every kind.

O charming in coquetry, sweet in unjust reproach,

joy has vanished from me since you went away from me.

O gazelle of Paradise, Riḍwān sent you as a gift

to us, and in you is all one could wish for.

You are the bān-tree of beauties, one of Eden's houris,

a lovely kind, bearing a share of every beauty.

    موج ردفٍ من فوقه قدُّ غصنِ

    A night of hair, beneath it a full-moon face;

a billow of hips, above it a bough-like figure.

Where has the full moon a radiance like this?

Where has the bough a sway like this?

A blush bore witness to your cheeks on my behalf

that your eyes captivate other eyes.

So whenever you look, you turn Hārūt

and Mārūt about between an eye and an eyelid.

And if I bought union with you one day

with my life, that would be no losing bargain.
