فهيهات هل يخفى على الظُّلمة البَدرُ
They say the hair has concealed his charms.
They say poetry has concealed his beauty
But far from it! Can the full moon be hidden from the darkness?
How absurd! Can the full moon be concealed by darkness?
كمhow great a difference بينbetween أرضٍa land قِفارٍbarren لاno نباتَvegetation بهاin it
كم بين أرضٍ قِفارٍ لا نباتَ بها
وأرضٍand a land اُخرىanother عليهاupon it النبتthe plants والزهرُand the flowers
وأرضٍ اُخرى عليها النبت والزهرُ
How great the difference between a barren land with no vegetation
What a difference between barren land, devoid of all plants
And another land with plants and flowers upon it!
And another land covered in vegetation and flowers
