إن كان لفظي كريهاً فاصطبر فعلى

كره العلاج يصحُّ اللَهُ أبدانا

If my words are unpleasant, bear with them, for despite

the unpleasantness of treatment, God restores bodies to health.

لولا العوارضُ ما طاب العتابُ لنا

Were it not for troubles, reproach would not be welcome to us;

Were it not for tribulations, reproach would not taste sweet to us,

were it not for our laundering of the garment, it would not look beautiful.

Were we not so short, clothes would not adorn us.

إني أُعاتب إخواني وهم ثقتي

Indeed, I reproach my brothers, though they are those I trust,
