    عدل القوام وجائر الأردافِ

    Sweet in his ways, soft of flank;

    His stature is upright, yet his hips are tyrannical.

    في وجنتيه الزهر ورد قطافِ

    In his face is always a springtime of beauty;

    On his cheeks, blossoms—roses ripe for plucking.

    بأديمه ماء البشاشة صافِ

    From his mouth, the light of a smile laughs;

    Upon his skin, the water of gladness is clear.

    His beauties offer to our eyes

    Precious gifts of desire and wonders of grace.

    And as he moves, there almost drips from him

    The water of bliss, from the delicacy of his limbs.

    His lover's life, thanks to his bounty, was spent

    In intimacy, communion, and sincere affection.

    لا ذا ملول هوىً ولا ذا جافِ

    That one's kindness and this one's beauty are evenly matched;

    Neither is one weary of love, nor the other aloof.

    Love blended their two souls, and so they mingled,

    Like clear water in the nectar of choice wine.

    Two bodies, with a single soul shared between them,

    Each gladdened by the other, in harmony.

    So you see the envious one say, when he sees them:

    "Life is nothing but the intimacy of close companions."
