    I asked, not knowing, out of shame and bewilderment,

    Whether you were exposing my face to shame or shedding my blood.

    I have no excuse if I do not ask you, nor is there any

    For one who finds water yet makes do with dry ablution.

    فكلُّ امرئٍ يُؤتي المكارم مُكرمِ

    And a person's honor lies only in his deeds;

    So everyone who performs generous deeds is honored.

    And anyone not looked to for a great deed,

    Even if he is the best of humankind, is not exalted.
