وضحكتَand you smiled عنrevealing متفتِّحِblooming الأنوارِthe flowers
When you looked at me through oryx eyes,
When you looked at me from the pupils of the doe
And smiled, revealing flowers in full bloom,
And smiled from the unfolding lights
وعقدتَand you tied بينbetween قضيبa branch بانٍa bān tree ناعمٍsupple
وكثيبand a dune رملٍsand عقدةthe knot الزُّنّارِthe zunnār girdle
And tied, between a supple bān branch
And tied between a tender sprouting wand
And a dune of sand, the knot of the zunnār girdle,
And a hill of sand the knot of the belt
عفَّرتُI covered with dust خدّيmy cheek فيin الثرىthe earth لكto you خاضعاًsubmissive
وعزمتُand I resolved منكbecause of you علىon دخولentering النارِthe Fire
I rubbed my cheek in the dust, submissive to you,
I rubbed my cheeks in the dust for you humbly
And because of you, I resolved to enter the Fire.
And was determined to enter the fire for you
