في حياةٍ مَزينةٍ بحَياءِ
خلفَbehind سِترَيْنِtwo veils مِنof حِجىًwisdom وحِجالand bridal curtains
خلفَ سِترَيْنِ مِن حِجىً وحِجال
In a life adorned with modesty,
Behind two veils of modesty and chastity
Behind two veils of wisdom and bridal curtains,
In a life adorned with shyness
ذَكَرُmale; masculine العقلthe intellect وهيthough she أُنثىfemale أَلاindeed; behold رُfirst part of رُبَّ: many a
ذَكَرُ العقل وهي أُنثى أَلا رُ
بَّcompletion of رُبَّ: many a نِساءٍwomen لهاthey have عقولminds الرجالof men
بَّ نِساءٍ لها عقول الرجال
Masculine in intellect, though she is female—ah, how
Wisdom is attributed to her while she is a woman
many women have the minds of men!
By God, some women have the minds of men
