وناسي الرِّضاعة بئس الرَّضيعُ
For we are two nurslings of unclouded love;
For we are but sucklings of love so pure,
And he who forgets that nursing is a wretched nursling.
Yet forget our suckling - how vile a suckling!

وعند اكتمال نُهانا يَضيعُ
Do you preserve it in the days of childhood,
Will you preserve it in the days of youth,
Yet, when our minds mature, it is lost?
Only for it to be lost when we are grown?

شريفُ المَناسب ساعٍ وَضيعُ
And our love is turned aside, although it is
It bends our passion claiming it is
Of noble lineage, by a base tale-bearer.
Noble of rank, striving, yet so vile.
