طِرْfly أَيُّهاO الطَّيرthe bird واهْجُرْand leave behind ماwhat خُدِعْتَyou were deceived بهby it
طِرْ أَيُّها الطَّير واهْجُرْ ما خُدِعْتَ به
فليسfor it is not للحُبِّout of love نُلقيwe cast الحَبَّthe grain لِلعاصيto the disobedient one
فليس للحُبِّ نُلقي الحَبَّ لِلعاصي
Fly, O bird, and leave behind what deceived you.
Fly, oh bird, and leave what deceived you
For it is not out of love that we cast grain to the disobedient one.
Love's bait is not thrown to the disobedient one

وإنَّما هذه الأشياءُ سائرُها

And all these things are nothing but—
And all these things only fool us
though sweet to you—snares leading to cages.
Even if traps are set up for you as cages
